The Monkey Bite Archive

Every Monday through Friday-ish, we post a new Monkey Bite on our frontdoor for your edification. This could be a little news item, a link to a useful site, a handy coding tip, or just some random piece of information we think might be of interest to Web developers. Expired Monkey Bites are stored right here, growing tastier and more sophisticated with each passing day.

This month's Monkey Bites:

12/21/02

Webmonkey wishes you Peace on Earth and a happy New Year! We will be on a holiday hiatus until the 3rd of January, 2003. In the meantime, browse our how-to library, check out the newly re-designed HotBot, or just give us a great big hug. We love you.

12/19/02

Holy smokes, have you seen HotBot lately? Not only has it been entirely looked and felt up and given a pride of new features, but HotBot now offers FAST, Google, Inktomi, or Teoma results. Total one-stop shopping, just in time for the holidays!

Tired of all the dirty, dirty things Microsoft does to your HTML when you "Save as Web Page"? Textism's Word HTML cleaner sucks out all those proprietary tags and artifacts and leaves you with fresh, clean, wholesome HTML. Ah.

12/16/02

The bids are flying fast and furious over at the 20 Things Benefit Auction. Check it, sisters: It's for a good cause, and what better gift for those hard-to-please people on your list than a one-of-a-kind art thing?

12/12/02

The W3C is putting on a Welcome Page Competition for Amaya, W3C's editor/browser. The goal is to use as wide a variety of markup as possible (HTML, XHTML, CSS, MathML expressions, SVG drawings ...), and it has to be valid (duh). The deadline's February 3, 2003, so you have plenty of time to really go crazy. Crazier, I mean.

12/09/02

If you're an intrepid Java developer who longs to meet like-minded individuals, then head over to the Java MEETUP 2.0 on Monday, December 16th. Simultaneous grip-and-grin parties are taking place in over 500 cities in 27 countries. A perfect opportunity to meet other Java gurus, sip a cocktail, and trade bad jokes.

12/06/02

Some dot-com entrepreneurs have the right idea: When the bubble bursts, change your focus. Meet the GeekMaids, former tech employees who will sort your laundry, water your organic garden, and set up your Linux firewall.

12/04/02

Have you entered your site in the SXSW Interactive Festival Website Competition? Better get cracking, sister. The deadline's December 6 — that's right, this Friday! (It's US$15 for individuals, $30 for businesses, and you can enter your site in multiple categories, but you have to pony up the fee each time.)

12/02/02

Now, with the help of a tattooing robot, you too can get the unique, spastic scribbling of a ritalin-starved two-year-old permanently inked onto your body!
