The Monkey Bite Archive

Every Monday through Friday-ish, we post a new Monkey Bite on our frontdoor for your edification. This could be a little news item, a link to a useful site, a handy coding tip, or just some random piece of information we think might be of interest to Web developers. Expired Monkey Bites are stored right here, growing tastier and more sophisticated with each passing day.

This month's Monkey Bites:

We've been spewing forth a plethora of techniques for putting photos on the Web lately. So here's one more: the Web Album Generator for Windows. Go ahead, set the New York hipster art world on fire.

Are you an e-bore? Power down the Treo, drop the latte, and take the test. And depending on how geeky you are — you're running Mac OS X, right? — you will proabably get a kick out of this.

If you've gone and downloaded Mozilla Firebird and are loving it as much as we are, then here's a helpful resource: a complete list of keyboard shortcuts.

The fine folks at Mozilla have released build 0.6 of their Firebird browser. It's a lightweight version of Mozilla with all of the features you'd expect: tabbed browsing, integrated search, custom extensions, and even a fresh new design. Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

Just like khakis and penny loafers, cameras are now casual. Hewlett-Packard is working on a digital camera that "casually" takes photos and selects the best ones for you. Sort of Phildickian scary, yet sort of compelling as well. Just don't bring it to Burning Man, man.

05/20/03

Even if it weren't called The Kitty Project (Kitty Project!), we'd still be all fired up about the keyboard-independent touch typing device that looks kind of like someone wrapped a twisty-tie around each finger. A really goth twisty-tie.

So if a light bulb goes off over your melon when you get a great idea, what happens when that great idea actually is a light bulb, a high-speed, wireless-access-point light bulb? Huh.

05/7/03

If you like Java, and you're fed up with tired, old browsers, take a look at the HttpUnit browser emulator. Great for site testing, even better for cocktail parties.

05/5/03

When tomorrow's ice cream scooper looks like (darn, that's a registration-required NYT link!) a prize-o-matic crane, you know things are looking up. The future's so bright, you gotta wear ... sun block.

Tired of evil, email-harvesting robots lifting your address to use for their own nefarious, spammy purposes? Just run your email address through the Hiveware Enkoder before you post it on your site, and the dirty email sniffers will pass right on over it. Total "these are not the droids you're looking for"!
